A new Sanitation Facility for three Garages (Manhattan 1, 2, and 5) and a Salt Facility is being designed for a 100,000 sf site on the corner of Spring Street and the West Side Highway.

At an important and visible location, the facility will function 24 hours and will house office, locker, lunch, and workout spaces for staff as well as full maintenance facilities for vehicle repair and storage. The project is entering VE phase and is being co-designed with Dattner Associates. WXY is the designer of the exterior envelope.

The robust precast and curtain wall design creates a vertical emphasis grain of curtain-wall with breaks down the scale of the monumental horizontal expanse. The intention is to reflect the functional and rational garage structure through the architecture while creating a district headquarters that is also a civic building worthy of a very prominent site in the city.
